Aims And Objectives

  • to raise awareness of the needs aspirations and cultural dimensions of asylum seeker refugee and migrant communities in local residential communities through the facilitation of training and development, and through sessional/workshops to a variety of audiences and ages - to encourage effective integration and engagement, increase cohesion and reduce misconceptions and preconceived stereotypes of these communities (including targeted groups ie women and faith groups too)
  • through raising awareness of the above to professionals in services to these communities heighten access and usage of said services by them
  • to coordinate recreational activities for groups of young people to encourage participation, engagement and understanding between different ethnicities and status young people
  • to coordinate, develop and maintain communication between young people from all communities through media / technology to heighten the understanding of other cultures and communities and their ways of life within the uk and overseas

Both the directors and the decision making members of PIING are themselves either refugees, migrants, international country of origin birth or BME 2nd/3rd generation british born. In addition there are over 15 languages spoken and a variety of professional fields covered from qualified teachers, to youth workers, community development workers, specialised support workers and also homemakers!

Coordinator

With over 16 years experience working with refugees, asylum seekers and new migrants as a foundation the coordinators passion for making a difference to these communities and their integration into the UK is evident to all.  She has held positions in the UK and overseas from grass roots face-to-face support, advice and engagement to regional development, strategic and decision making levels alongside senior management.  She is also an effective and engaging communicator and facilitator with experience in delivering training and workshops to a range of professionals and particularly has significant experience in not only delivering but national recognised qualification in working with young people. 

We also have a Senior Facilitator who has exceptional professional and personal capacity in working with these communities - again in the UK but also overseas in particular Africa.  She has consistent and energised experience in working particularly in management and grass roots support with women, children and families from various communities and continues to thrive working to make a difference to the lives of children and young people.

We have various other volunteers who assist with translation, interpretation and delivering training and workshops for all professionals children and young people - their experience and understanding coming from not only professional but personal routes bringing a unique and emerging innovative way of working in this field!  Between the staff and volunteers over 20 languages and dialects are spoken and pride across many continents and countries of origin evident!
